In shortERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is an enterprise system that manages business processes such as finance, procurement, inventory, sales and production planning in one piece of software.
ERP is the system of record for the business: a production order is opened, material is reserved, consumption and confirmation are posted, cost is calculated. SAP ECC and S/4HANA are common examples.
Moving data from the plant floor to ERP is not just about opening a connection; the transaction must respect the ERP’s business logic. Which interface (RFC/BAPI, IDoc or an approved API) to use, how duplicate posting is prevented and how a business error is handled must be settled up front.
In OPC Router projects
With the SAP plug-in OPC Router connects to SAP business processes through RFC, BAPI and IDoc; the scope of ERP business logic is defined separately.
