Data buffer calculator
Estimate outage storage and the time needed to drain a backlog, and follow the build-up on a timeline.
Estimated buffer storage
1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes. This is a capacity estimate; validate the storage format, disk throughput and actual workload.
Formula & assumptions
Storage = records/s × bytes/record × outage seconds × overhead × (1 + margin/100). Recovery time = backlog records / (destination rate − incoming rate). Destination rate must exceed incoming rate.

How do you size a Store & Forward buffer?
Derive the raw volume from outage duration, record rate and record size; add an overhead factor and a safety margin. Then check recovery time against the destination’s drain rate. See the glossary for the concept.
Why does the backlog never drain?
If the destination’s total write rate does not exceed the incoming data rate the backlog does not shrink. The tool flags this; review destination capacity or load.
