Energy monitoring: from kWh to consumption per unit
Combine meter readings with production quantities and matching time windows to create meaningful energy indicators.
Read the guideSolutions
Understand consumption in its production context.
Energy managers and plant engineers
Collect electricity, gas, steam or water consumption as time series. Relate it to output to examine consumption per unit and the baseline load outside production.
The OPC UA Client reads meter and measurement tags.
Counter differences are taken; units and scale converted; values placed in the same time window as production.
Timestamped records are written to a time-series destination such as SQL or InfluxDB.
Pilot acceptance criterion
Reconcile one day of meter differences with the source; verify that zero-production periods show idle consumption rather than an invalid per-unit value.
Connector availability, version compatibility and licence scope are verified for each project.
Combine meter readings with production quantities and matching time windows to create meaningful energy indicators.
Read the guidekW is instantaneous power, kWh is energy consumed over a period. If the meter reports cumulative kWh, consumption is the difference between two readings; summing instantaneous kW values gives a wrong result. Unit and scale must be settled up front.
Relate the energy difference in a time window to the quantity produced in the same window. Where production is zero, consumption per product is undefined; show idle consumption instead. The energy monitoring guide walks through the steps.
