In shortProduction traceability is the ability to trace back which material, equipment, process parameters and time a product or batch was produced with.
Traceability relies on linking records with common keys: batch number, equipment identifier and timestamp. If one of these keys is missing in a system or held in a different format, the chain breaks.
Barcode and RFID read events are used to build that context. The most critical decision is which system owns which key; integrations made without this decision produce inconsistencies that are hard to fix later.
