In shortStore & Forward is a buffering approach in which data is stored locally while the destination is unreachable and forwarded in order when access returns.
During a network outage, database maintenance or a service restart the data flow does not simply stop; records first accumulate in a local buffer. When the connection returns, the accumulated records are delivered to the destination.
The buffer is not infinite: its capacity follows outage duration, data rate and record size, and drain time depends on the destination’s write rate. During replay the source time of events must be preserved and duplicate records prevented.
The data buffer calculator estimates capacity and recovery time.
In OPC Router projects
In OPC Router, buffering behaviour is planned with the Store & Forward add-on. No unconditional “zero data loss” guarantee is made; buffer capacity and destination recovery speed are assessed together in the project.
